The Challenge

The client is a laboratory that analyzes milk quality (composition, somatic cell count, and total bacterial count). Its data was spread across the ERP and the laboratory analysis systems. The goals were to:

  • Consolidate that data into a single, reliable source
  • Build a centralized analytics platform on ClickHouse with a medallion architecture
  • Establish solid data engineering and governance practices
  • Reduce the dependence on manual extraction

The Solution

A medallion data lake on ClickHouse

  • Reliable ingestion from the ERP and the analysis equipment into the bronze layer
  • Modeling and transformation with schema conventions, partitioning, deduplication, and data quality handling
  • A curated gold layer as the foundation for reports
  • Standardized naming, layer separation, and query patterns
  • Knowledge transfer to the internal team

Technical decisions such as ClickHouse and Airflow were justified with evidence and the client's context. The BIX team worked inside the client's own tools (Teams and Azure DevOps), with dailies and a weekly status meeting.

What was delivered

A ClickHouse data lake in production with bronze, silver, and gold layers, schema and convention documentation, and an analytics base that now feeds dashboards on sample volume and equipment productivity.
